New Rideshare App

DESTARNY PRESS RELEASE

TAXI DRIVERS FIGHT BACK AGAINST UBER THROUGH NEW DESTARNY APP

Since the introduction of ride share apps like Uber, taxi drivers have seen a steady decline in their share of the booking fare market. As of January 2018 the value of the taxi plate declined in value by as much as 60%.

Destarny has been developed specifically for taxi drivers by one of their own to allow taxi drivers to go on the offensive against Uber when competing on price in the booking fare market.

WHAT IS DESTARNY?

Destarny is a ride share app developed exclusively to help the taxi industry compete in the booking fare market.

Passengers using Destarny will see similarities with other ride sharing apps. Where it differentiates however is its focus on price and the choices it gives passengers, including an ability for passengers to set their own price.

The additional booking fare work available through Destarny will supplement traditional hail and rank work of taxi drivers.

HOW IT WORKS?

Destarny Offers Four Price Options For Passengers:

Destarny: price matching UberX lowest metered rate (no surge)

Taxi: price reflective of the taxi meter day rate

Premium: is a hire car rate: approximately 20% more than a taxi

Set-Fare: a fixed price for a trip set by passengers.

Destarny drivers can choose whether to accept the fares set by passengers.

By offering these different price options, Destarny allows taxi drivers to compete aggressively on price, a large cause of the shift to ride sharing apps.

WHAT IS THE EXPECTED IMPACT ON PRICES?

Uber’s 1.0 price is approximately 20% cheaper than taxi day rates (10pm to 6am) and approximately 1/3rd cheaper than taxi night rates (6am to 10pm).

Destarny’s price options will mean that for the first time, taxi drivers will be able to compete at or below Uber’s 1.0 price.

The benefits for passengers are expected to be most prominent during quiet times and for traditional empty or delayed return trips for taxis such as following suburban or airport drop-offs (when drivers face unpaid return trips to the CBD or lengthy waiting times in airport ranks).

When surge rates kick on Uber they can often see Uber prices exceed taxi meter prices. This occurs at the approximate level of:
- 1.3 surge pricing (and above) during taxi day rates (6am to 10pm); and
- 1.5 surge pricing (and above) during taxi night rates (10pm to 6am)

During such peak times, Destarny is expected to introduce further competition in the ride share market by increasing supply of such services as taxi drivers are able to take on higher fares but still undercut Uber surge.

WHO CAN BECOME A DRIVER?

Destarny has been developed exclusively to help the taxi industry compete in the booking fare market. Because of this, Destarny is only available to registered taxi drivers and taxi operators.

Destarny also offers scope for growth in the use of the service by taxi drivers and owners by allowing them to roll out the app to additional cars they operate, e.g. premium hire cars.

ROLL-OUT OF DESTARNY

Destarny has already signed up hundreds of drivers and are signing up drivers to its appon a daily basis. The initial focus for public awareness of the app will be for airport pick-ups, where there is expected to be a strong supply of taxi drivers to take on fares through the app – as they would otherwise have an average 1 hour wait for jobs after passenger drop-offs at the airport.

ABOUT THE DEVELOPER OF DESTARNY

Destarny has been developed by Peter Malaczynski, a local Sydney entreprenur who drove taxi’s all the way through university where he completed a bachelor of mechanical engineering at UTS.

The entreprenurial lifestyle is a hard gig and Peter is hoping that finally he will get his first big win and push the others along as well.

Some of the other IT innovations Peter has been developing include:

- Price Comparison Site (www.pricecomparisonsearch.com.au): a price comparison search engine where consumers can search for products and toggle with some innovative filters.
- Hagoole (www.hagoole.com): which is still an ongoing work to facilitate a new market model where customers can interact directly with manufacturers on price.
- Hand of God app (www.handofgodapp.com): a sports prediction app which also allows punters to better understand the odds being offered by betting agencies, and
- Destarny(www.destarny.com.au):  Taxi / Rideshare / Fleet Technology
